Laws & Consultation

About the Laws Group

Leading up to the first election under the Otipemisiwak Métis Government in September 2023, there are new laws that must be passed to replace current MNA bylaws where applicable, to support the transition to self-government under the Constitution.

Who they are:

Members of the Laws Group are lawyers and subject matter experts with a wide range of knowledge and skillsets required to develop laws, policies, and other documents, and provide advice to assist.

What they do:

The Laws Group will develop the laws the Constitution requires. The Laws Group will work with Provincial Council, the MNA Self-Government team, and other MNA stakeholders to ensure the laws respond to the needs of the future Otipemisiwak Métis Government. Under the Constitution, it is Provincial Council’s role to adopt the laws required for Transition. The Laws Group will provide information to the Transition Committee during the course of its work.
